Giving

St. John Chrysostom Church has been a gem in Delafield and Lake Country since the early 1850’s. Many of the community’s founders and notable citizens were parishioners and are buried in our churchyard.

The church building was designed by renowned architect Richard Upjohn and is one of the premier examples of “Carpenter Gothic” architecture still in existence. The church building has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972.

Its impressive that this church has been an active parish and part of the community for 169 years and we appreciate your support so we can continue to serve you and our community into the future.

Six reasons to support Our Christian Community:

● Our church depends on parishioner gifts for operating funds.

● The church is part of the Diocese of Milwaukee. We apply for and sometimes receive grants for specific projects but receive no other financial support from them.

● The church provides ongoing support to our church family and community including things like:

○ Weekly religious services

○ Christian education for adults & children

○ Community outreach - food pantry, local senior living communities and more

● St. John Chrysostom has been a landmark in the community for 169 years and sustaining it helps maintain the culture of our community.

● Maintaining this historic landmark requires ongoing, significant investment. As you can imagine, maintaining a building like ours requires diligence and ongoing maintenance.

● St. John Chrysostom is committed to maintaining our churchyard and remembering those who are buried here in perpetuity. We maintain these grounds and vital records that are critical to our community.

IRA & Retirement Plan Gifts

This information is provided for informational purposes only. Please consult your own tax advisor,

retirement planner and/or legal counsel for specific information pertaining to your own situation.

A retirement plan can be a simple and possibly tax-efficient way of giving to St. John Chrysostom. The

easiest way is to name St. John Chrysostom as a beneficiary on your plan’s beneficiary designation

form.

The tax advantage is due to the fact that many retirement plans are subject to income and possibly

estate taxes if left to individual beneficiaries. However, a charity that is named as a beneficiary does not

pay income or estate taxes on the distribution so the full value distributed will be received by St. John

Chyrsostom.

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

You may be able to make a gift to St. John Chrysostom with a “qualified charitable distribution” or “IRA

charitable rollover” from your IRA and take advantage of savings.

For example, if the owner of an IRA directs the plan administrator to distribute an amount (not to

exceed $100,000) in a calendar year to a charity, the distribution counts

toward the owner’s required minimum distribution (RMD), but is not included in his or her income for

tax purposes.

These are just a few ideas to help you plan for your retirement, the future of your family - as well as reduce taxes and support the work of St. John Chrysostom. We would be pleased to discuss these and other ideas with you and your financial advisor to answer any questions you may have.
